Our goal: to give the children a home
The new Future Citizen Children's Home will be located on a property in Shankharapur, 15 km from the capital Kathmandu and well connected to the metropolis. Very close and within walking distance: primary and secondary schools, bus station, markets and other shopping opportunities, while the high school can be reached by bus.
The new home offers enough space for everyone. Finally arriving and staying - that was the great wish of the Future Citizen children, who had previously moved several times and now should have a place where they can grow up.
A tailor-made children's house
Our Future Citizen team has talked a lot about what the children's home and the property on which it stands should look like - what requirements there are, be they legal requirements (e.g. spatial separation according to gender, as well as between above and below 18-year-olds), other structural requirements (earthquake safety, cost-saving construction) or simply the fulfillment of personal wishes (plenty of space and freedom for living in a group, but also to be able to concentrate on learning alone).
There are a number of criteria that need to be taken into account.
The construction planning
The first step has been taken: Shankharapur in the east of the Kathmandu Valley was chosen as the location for the children's home, the building plot has already been acquired, the transfer of ownership has taken place - now the construction and financing planning continues.
Not everything has to be finished at the same time. First, the property needs to be developed and as soon as sufficient financial resources are collected, the first building will be built on the rear part of the property.
