Local pragmatism meets German experience

Future Citizen was established in 2010 through Birbahadur (Bibi) Funyal, a Nepalese national. Dr. Reiner Meierbeck met Bibi Funyal in 2007 as he was traveling through Nepal. Since then he has been financially supporting Funyal’s project.

After having conversations with Bibi Funyal his desire to contribute grew considerably. This was the start of the core team that has been distributing multiple tasks and responsibilities to teams in Nepal and Germany of the Children’s Aid Program since 2015.

We transfer your donation safely to Nepal

Future Citizen is a Nepal registered and approved NGO (Nepalese: Bholika Nagarik). In Germany it ran initiallly as a private initiative. In order to be quickly effective, a partnership with Freunde Nepals e.V. (“Friends of Nepal), a charitable organization under the laws of Germany, was established in 2014.
Over the past decades “Friends of Nepal” has supervised many successful projects in Nepal. In the first project phase, their team was responsible for transferring money to Nepal and issuing donation receipts on behalf of Future Citizen. In November 2017, these tasks were taken over by the newly founded non-profit organization Future Citizen e.V.

Transparency is important to us

There are thousands of competing organizations in Germany, receiving 6 - 7 Billion € annually. A small organization like us can only get attention in an environment like this one if we are transparent and spend our money wisely. This applies to all of our areas of work.

So that we can build the trust of our donors, supporters and our network, we are personally invested in staying in contact with you. At the beginning of the year we provide you with our financial report. It entails the amount of donations and the use of those funds. Transparency to every last detail.

Staying small and effective

We believe that is is important to keep an oversight and control in a complex environment like Nepal, and in order to do so we must stay small. We obviously want to help as many kids as possible with our program, yet we are aware of our personal and financial boundaries.

Before we endanger a successful program for 32 children and teenagers by the uncontrolled admission of further children, we would rather say no. And sadly we have to constantly decline interested families. However, we have planned a lot. We will focus immensely yet controlled, on our goal to establish a boarding school for the kids in Jiri.
